This shochu was made at the end of the Showa era, and it is a rare product that has been "sleeping" in excellent condition. I found it at a wholesaler's exhibition the other day, and it's one of the top 3 most precious Japanese spirits in my career as a liquor store owner! ✨

History and Production of Suminoe 🕰️🏭
"Suminoe 36 Years Aged" is a brown sugar shochu produced at Ishihara Shuzo at the end of the Showa era.
It has been passed down to the present day, maintaining the production methods of that time, after 36 years of aging.
Machida Shuzo's founder, Jitsutaka Machida, inherited it, moved to Tatsugo Town in Amami Oshima, and continues production with modern facilities.

When aging for a long time, most usually age in barrels.
However, I've always thought that if brown sugar shochu is aged in barrels for too long, its delicate flavor will be lost.
In contrast, this Suminoe is aged in stainless steel tanks.
I have never seen shochu stored for such a long period in stainless steel tanks.
I was very surprised!!
I could taste the soft yet deep aroma of brown sugar shochu, which I had never experienced before. I was simply moved...
And I decided to purchase it on the spot.

The label of this shochu uses "plant dyeing," a traditional craft of Amami Oshima, and is made from handmade Japanese paper using natural materials from the island. Each label is crafted by hand, allowing you to enjoy the unique character of each one.
