Aglianico del Vulture 750ml | Red Wine Italy
This wine is made exclusively from Aglianico grapes grown at the foot of the extinct volcano Mount Vulture, across the highlands of southern Italy's Basilicata region at elevations of 200-700 m. Designated DOC in 1971, it is known as Basilicata's first officially classified appellation.
Description
The lava-rich soil deposited by volcanic activity around 800,000 years ago is abundant in minerals such as magnesium and potassium. Grapes grown at high elevations with significant temperature differences between day and night develop impressive concentration, resulting in a powerful wine with a deep ruby color, aromas reminiscent of blackberries and licorice, and smooth tannins.
Recommended serving suggestions
Its rich, South Italian fruitiness pairs beautifully with distinctive meat dishes such as lamb and wild boar, as well as aged cheese. Depending on the vintage, it has the structure to age for more than 10 years, so we recommend taking your time to enjoy how it evolves.
