The rich flavor of Darkness 8 Year Old, created by worm-tub distillation and additional maturation in Oloroso sherry octaves
The Darkness series is produced by Master of Malt, a prestigious London whisky shop. This 8-year-old single malt from a Speyside distillery, which was known until recent years for distilling its spirit two and a half times, receives additional maturation in Oloroso sherry octaves.
Key features
The distillery uses traditional condensers known as worm tubs. Its spirit is additionally matured in small octaves, resulting in an affordable single malt packed with the rich flavors imparted by Oloroso sherry casks.
Tasting notes
The color is golden amber. Rich aromas from the sherry cask unfold with candied orange peel, sweet dried fruit, chocolate, peanuts, and spices such as cinnamon and clove. The palate is full of raisin and prune sweetness, while the nuttiness of almond cookies and oak flavors add depth. The finish reveals chocolate and an oily smokiness.
Recommended serving
We recommend trying it neat first to enjoy the rich sweetness and spices imparted by the sherry cask.
