"What the!?" - A Unique Shochu Born from Local Love and Brewery Craft, Exclusively for Designated Stores

The special limited edition sweet potato shochu, "What the!?" (pronounced "Naina!?"), was born from the rich nature of Ebino City, Miyazaki Prefecture, and the passion of the brewers dedicated to shochu making.
It is crafted using local rice and sweet potatoes grown in the Kakuto Caldera, surrounded by the Yataka Highlands to the north and the Kirishima Mountains to the south, and applying advanced blending techniques for sweet potato and rice shochu.
Enjoy this unique and unparalleled flavor, where the individuality of the region and the brewery resonate.

"What the!? This is!" - A New Sensation Shochu That Amazed

"What the!? (What is this shochu!?)" - "Naina!?" was named after this exclamation of surprise.
It is a product perfected after much trial and error, a "delicious shochu on the rocks" that overturns the conventional wisdom of sweet potato shochu.
The moment it touches your lips, a gentle aroma of sweet potato spreads, followed by an elegant sweetness and a refreshingly crisp finish.
It offers a delicate lightness and profound depth that make you want to keep drinking.

Brewing Philosophy: The Golden Ratio Blend of Sweet Potato × Rice

Utilizing Akashi Shuzo's accumulated blending techniques, sweet potato shochu and rice shochu are harmoniously balanced.
The flavor, a fusion of sweet potato's richness and rice's mellowness, can be enjoyed refreshingly on the rocks in summer and richly warm with hot water in winter.
The use of rice cultivated by the brewery itself, along with a commitment to ingredients and an unsparing attitude towards effort, supports the annual evolution of its flavor.

The "Naina" Philosophy Embodied in Design

The minimalist bottle design, so subtle it might make you wonder "Is there no label?", is a deliberate effort to highlight the individuality of the shochu itself.
The creative label, featuring a long, extended washi paper seal with the name written on it, is also a symbol expressing the brewer's dedication.
The "Naina Musubi" knot tied around the bottle neck, inspired by the cord of a sake flask, embodies the wish for the shochu to "connect people."

Flavor Characteristics

  • A softly spreading, elegant aroma of sweet potato and gentle sweetness
  • A smooth finish and light, crisp taste
