Akkeshi Single Malt Shubun 700ml | Whisky Completion of the 24 Seasonal Divisions series
The culmination of a six-year story. The 24 Solar Terms Series reaches its final chapter with Shūbun.
Beginning with Kanro in October 2020, the Akkeshi Distillery’s 24 Solar Terms Series has finally reached its conclusion with Shūbun, after six years in the making. The rich flavor of barley from Akkeshi, Hokkaido, and vibrant peat smoke come together as one in this fitting finale to the series.
What makes it special
Shūbun is the final bottle in the special group of the 24 Solar Terms known as the “Nijini-bun” - the summer solstice, winter solstice, spring equinox, and autumnal equinox. Made with Hokkaido-grown barley, it fully brings out the robust peat smoke nurtured by Akkeshi’s natural environment, along with the rich malt character unique to the northern land.
Flavor and aroma profile
The aroma combines the sweetness of honey castella with complex layers of citrus, including orange, hassaku, lime, and lemon, along with rich sweetness reminiscent of brown sugar and amanatsu coated in sugar. The palate has a crisp, layered structure centered on orange, with lemon and lime spreading refreshingly. The finish lingers with gentle notes of ginger and white pepper, lemon-lime acidity, grapefruit-like bitterness, and syrupy sweetness.
Recommended ways to enjoy
To appreciate the original strength of this whisky, aged for 5 years and bottled at the relatively high alcohol content of 55%, try it neat first. Adding a small amount of water or serving it on the rocks allows the citrus aromas to open up more vibrantly.
