One of the flagship products of Venture Whisky (Chichibu Distillery), a leader in the Japanese whisky world, the Wine Wood Reserve (WWR) is part of the Leaf Label series. It's an exceptionally meticulously crafted masterpiece, combining several types of raw spirits, with malt from the now-defunct legendary Hanyu Distillery as the key malt, and then finished in Japanese red wine barrels previously used by a winery in Katsunuma.
Craftsmanship and Background: The Magic of "Extra Effort" with Red Wine Casks
The most distinctive feature of this product is the use of domestic red wine barrels made from French oak (barrels that had aged Muscat Bailey A and Merlot) for finishing. This "extra step" of changing barrels during maturation creates a complex depth that cannot be achieved through regular maturation. Furthermore, to allow enjoyment of the whisky's original character, it is bottled without chill-filtration or artificial coloring.
Taste and Aroma Characteristics: Fruity with a Bitter Finish
The brilliance and richness of 100% malt are layered with the unique character derived from wine barrels.
