Kilkerran is a single malt whisky from the Mitchell's Glengyle Distillery, which opened in Campbeltown in 2004.
Glengyle was built on the same site as the original distillery, which closed in 1925. Kilkerran is produced using lightly peated malt (approx. 15ppm) floor-malted at its sister distillery, Springbank, and is double-distilled. Production is around 100,000 liters, distilled for about three months a year by Springbank's craftsmen.
Kilkerran 12 Year Old is a 12-year-old Campbeltown malt produced in small quantities, using two types of casks: bourbon (70%) and sherry (30%).
The aroma is floral with pear candy and marzipan, joined by a light peat smoke with a sweetness reminiscent of marshmallows roasted over a bonfire. The flavor offers lemon cheesecake and the oily nuance characteristic of Campbeltown malts. With time, toffee pudding sweetness emerges, along with light peat smoke, leather, and pepper. The peat smoke lingers like smoldering embers through the finish, mingling with the sweetness of pecan pie and butterscotch.
