"Akanekaze 43" is an aromatic imo shochu produced by Honbo Shuzo using their patented "Grated Raw Potato Preparation" method, developed in 2017. It uses the rare sweet potato "Tamaakane" with orange flesh as its raw material, and by adding grated raw sweet potato during the secondary fermentation, it fully extracts the rich flavor of the sweet potato itself. When poured into a glass, a gorgeous aroma reminiscent of citrus and herbs rises, and the mouthfeel is smooth. The smooth sweetness, which belies its 43% alcohol content, and the lingering aftertaste are impressive. This level of perfection has been highly acclaimed at international competitions, having won the highest award in the shochu category at IWSC 2021, and is one of Honbo Shuzo's signature products, with a track record of awards at multiple international competitions including IWSC, ISC, and SWSC.
