Tasakishuzo's charcoal-grilled sweet potato shochu "Onibi" is meticulously crafted in Kagoshima Prefecture. It is made using a time-consuming process that involves carefully selecting purple sweet potatoes from Tanegashima, slowly grilling each one over charcoal, and then preparing it for distillation.
The charcoal grilling brings out a natural sweetness and savory aroma, much like a baked sweet potato. While suppressing the uniqueクセ (peculiar strong flavor) often found in sweet potato shochu, it achieves an exquisite balance where the potato's flavor is still distinctly felt.
Recommended way to enjoy
When served with hot water, the savory sweetness unique to charcoal grilling gently spreads. This is an easy-to-drink shochu that we recommend even for those new to sweet potato shochu.
