It is an "authentic Islay malt," born from a steadfast commitment to the region, with barley cultivation, distillation, and maturation for the entire period all taking place on Islay. While many Islay whiskies are matured on the mainland, Port Charlotte matures all its new make spirit in warehouses on Islay, exposed to the Atlantic winds. This climate imparts a unique salinity and profound maturity to the spirit, creating a deep and refined character that distinguishes it from youthful peat aromas.
Tasting Notes
Bright citrus aromas and sea spray give way to a powerful and warming wave of barbecue smoke and peat. On the palate, a rich sweetness of vanilla and coconut from the oak, along with cocoa and caramel, spreads, harmonizing beautifully with the smokiness. The finish is long and pleasant, with notes of tobacco smoke and sweet fudge.
