Satsuma Hozan, a black koji shochu from Nishi Sake Brewery in Hioki City, Kagoshima Prefecture, established in 1845, is based on the belief that "shochu making is agriculture." By using carefully selected Kogane Sengan sweet potatoes and black koji, it brings out a rich roasted aroma and deep umami.
This well-balanced shochu offers a robust flavor yet a clean finish that doesn't overpower the delicate flavors of accompanying dishes. Its reliable quality has been recognized, including a gold medal at the 2011 Monde Selection.
