Setouchi Oloroso Sherry Cask Single Malt Japanese Whisky is a domestic whisky produced by Setouchi Distillery, run by Miyake Honten, a long-established company that has been brewing sake for over 120 years in Kure, Hiroshima. It is now available in a luxurious 200ml mini size, making it easier to enjoy.

Key features

We use carefully selected non-peated malt produced in Australia and subsoil water from Mt. Haigamine, an isolated peak in our local Kure, rich in minerals, for mashing. Utilizing our years of cultivated sake brewing techniques, we combine distillery yeast with ale yeast. By fermenting for an extended period of 90 to 114 hours, 1.5 times longer than usual, we extract a rich, fruity aroma from the whisky. The distilled spirit is then carefully aged for over 3 years through the four seasons of Setouchi in small 225L (hogshead) Oloroso sherry casks, which impart deep richness and maturity.

Flavor and Aroma Characteristics

By finishing with non-chill filtering, without any coloring or chill filtration, we have bottled the rich aroma and source of umami inherent to the whisky. This product is entirely bottled as single cask, with each bottle displaying its cask number. You can enjoy the profound flavor nurtured by the nature of Setouchi and the unique taste of each individual cask.

Recommended Ways to Enjoy

To fully appreciate the rich umami and mellow aroma of the raw ingredients, we especially recommend enjoying it straight or on the rocks. If you prefer a highball, a ratio of 1 part whiskey to 4 parts soda water is ideal. Using a tulip-shaped tasting glass will further enhance your enjoyment of its delicate aroma.
