Lagavulin 16 Year Old is a single malt whisky produced at the Lagavulin Distillery, located on the south coast of Islay, Scotland. Established in 1816, the distillery has maintained traditional production methods for over 200 years. The malt used in this whisky is heavily peated, with a phenol level of 34-38ppm. Islay's peat, rich in seaweed, imparts a distinctive maritime and iodine aroma. The water used for mashing is spring water from Loch Solan, which flows through peat bogs, contributing to its deep flavor. Long distillation periods, including a 5-hour first distillation and a 10-hour second distillation, bring out a rich and powerful character.

Long-term maturation takes place in traditional dunnage warehouses, where the whisky slowly deepens in flavor using bourbon and sherry casks. Alongside a profound, smoky aroma, a mellow and elegant sweetness is perceived, making it an exquisite product characterized by a superb balance with salinity.

It gained global attention in 1988 when it was selected as one of the six "Classic Malts" by the former UD (now Diageo). Whisky critic Michael Jackson praised it as the "Giant of Islay," attesting to its established reputation.
