The rare Islay malt “Loch Gorm,” finished exclusively in sherry casks and released just once a year - the 2026 edition is aged for 10 years.

Kilchoman is the only distillery on Islay not located by the sea. It is a rare distillery that carries out every stage of production on-site, from growing the barley to bottling. Released only once a year, Loch Gorm is an exceptionally rare expression finished in 100% sherry casks, unlike the bourbon barrels that account for around 80% of Kilchoman’s spirit. The 2026 edition uses spirit matured in 23 Oloroso sherry butts for over 10 years.

What makes it special

“Loch Gorm” takes its name from the loch near the distillery, whose peaty water is used in the mashing process. It is made with Islay peat malted to 50 ppm phenols and matured in 23 Oloroso sherry butts (20 first-fill and 3 second-fill). The result is a well-balanced expression in which the intensity of the first-fill casks is gently softened by the second-fill casks.

Tasting notes

A rich peat smoke overlays aromas of red-fruit dried fruits, BBQ-grilled meat, and roasted walnuts. The palate harmonizes candied orange and tropical fruit with salted caramel, dried prune, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The finish lingers with warming spices, roasted dark chocolate, licorice, and a pleasant peat smoke.

Recommended ways to enjoy

Enjoy it neat first to fully appreciate the fusion of peat and sherry. Adding a little water or serving it on the rocks brings out the fruit and spice aromas in a more vibrant way.
