Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin [2022]
Claude Dugat's Artistic Wine: Embodying the Quintessence of Gevrey-Chambertin
Claude Dugat is one of the most celebrated producers in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. He rose to international fame for crafting wines with astonishing concentration and energy, even at the village level.
This Gevrey-Chambertin 2022 is a blend of grapes from several plots owned by the domaine. The fruit from old vines, averaging over 50 years old, is incredibly concentrated, offering rich, aromatic qualities and a powerful structure.
2022 Vintage - Rich and Balanced
The 2022 vintage benefited from ample sunshine while maintaining good acidity. Dugat's village wine is characterized by ripe red and dark berries, fine tannins, and an elegant finish. It is richly flavored yet never excessive, achieving a magnificent harmony.
Meticulous Winemaking Rooted in Tradition
All grapes are hand-harvested. After selection, partial whole-bunch fermentation is employed, followed by 16-18 months of barrel aging (with 30-40% new oak). Dugat's characteristic precise use of oak beautifully balances the delicacy and power of Pinot Noir.
Aromas and Flavor Profile
- Aroma: Black cherry, cassis, violet, spice, and vanilla
- Taste: Powerful and dense fruit, harmonized with silky tannins and delicate acidity
- Finish: Long-lasting fruit sweetness and minerality
Recommended Pairings
Excellent with roasted lamb, duck confit, coq au vin, and aged cheeses. It pairs well with all meat dishes. Lightly decanting and serving at 16-18°C will bring out its full depth.
A Wine with Great Aging Potential
While Claude Dugat's wines are delicious young, they develop greater complexity with bottle age. Don't miss this rare vintage from a highly sought-after domaine that is notoriously difficult to acquire.
