Winter-exclusive Nigori Sake, Recreating Showa-era Imo Shochu
Honbo Shuzo's "Densho Satsuma Ohara Nigori" is a recreation of the "imo-kusai" (strong-smelling sweet potato) flavor of traditional imo shochu, which was once popular in Kagoshima. By minimally processing the undiluted sake after distillation and intentionally leaving in the umami components (fusel oil) that are usually removed, it achieves a unique, slightly cloudy character.
Rich and Robust Traditional Imo Shochu
Made from sweet potatoes from Kagoshima Prefecture and domestic rice koji, this sake captures the rustic and powerful flavor of sweet potato. It is recommended for those who seek a rich and distinctive taste, in contrast to the light imo shochu that has become mainstream in recent years. It is a limited release available only during the winter months each year.
Recommended Ways to Enjoy
When served with hot water, the sweet potato flavor is even more enhanced. It also pairs well with richly seasoned dishes such as tonkotsu (pork bone) dishes and nishime (simmered dishes).
