"Genshu Yakusugi" is an unfiltered, undiluted sweet potato shochu genshu (undiluted sake) brewed at Honbo Shuzo's Yakushima Densho蔵 (traditional brewery) on Yakushima Island, a World Natural Heritage site. The shochu is carefully brewed using soft water nurtured by Yakushima's laurel forests for preparation, and employing traditional methods with white koji and ceramic pots. Despite its high alcohol content of 37%, it has an surprisingly smooth taste, with a gentle sweetness derived from the sweet potato and a rich aroma that lingers in the aftertaste. Its high quality is well-established, having received seven gold medals at international alcoholic beverage competitions, and is highly regarded as a rare genshu from Yakushima.
