Maeda Toshiie 1800ml Bottle | Sweet Potato Shochu Ibusuki Shuzo Kagoshima Prefecture
This is the flagship brand that Ibusuki Shuzo in Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture, offers as the face of its distillery.
What kind of drink is Maeda Riemon?
The “Riemon” on the label is the name of a historical figure said to have brought sweet potato seedlings back from Ryukyu during the Edo period and spread them throughout Satsuma. The bottle's black label, accented by a striking white triangle, is filled with the rich, sweet aroma and mellow mouthfeel unique to a brew made with red sweet potatoes. One of Ibusuki Shuzo's most popular bottles, it is recommended for those who want to fully enjoy the characteristic aroma of sweet potato shochu.
Recommended ways to enjoy
Warming it with hot water brings out its expansive aroma, while serving it on the rocks lets you savor the sweet potato's rich flavor directly. It pairs especially well with light dishes such as sashimi, vinegared dishes, and chilled tofu.
