"Tsurumi" is the flagship sweet potato shochu brand of Oishi Shuzo, founded in 1899 in Akune City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Its name is said to come from an anecdote where Chojiro, the first head of the brewery, enjoyed shochu while watching cranes fly from Siberia to Akune. Carefully brewed with white koji, it has a crisp, dry taste, with a fragrant, sweet aroma of sweet potatoes that passes through the nose, and a lingering aftertaste even after swallowing. It is a classic product that embodies the capabilities of Oishi Shuzo, loved by locals for many years.
Recommended Ways to Enjoy
For a crisp, dry taste, rock or mizuwari (with water) is recommended. When served oyuwari (with hot water), the fragrant aroma is even more enhanced.
