"Yakusugi" is a sweet potato shochu brewed at Hombo Shuzo's Yakushima Densho蔵 on Yakushima, an island designated as a World Natural Heritage site. We continue to preserve traditional brewing methods in our old-fashioned, handcrafted brewery. It is carefully distilled using white koji and atmospheric distillation, with Satsuma sweet potatoes from Kagoshima Prefecture and domestic rice koji as ingredients. The brewing water is sourced from the abundant nature of Yakushima, giving it a rich aroma that fully brings out the umami of the sweet potato, and a robust, full-bodied flavor. When you taste it, a mellow sweetness spreads, and its substantial quality, allowing you to savor a lingering finish, has received high acclaim, including the highest gold award (Double Gold) at international liquor competitions.

Recommended Ways to Enjoy

For enjoying its rich aroma and robust flavor, we recommend serving it with hot water (Oyuwari) or on the rocks. Savouring it slowly over time will allow you to enjoy a profound aftertaste that evokes the nature of Yakushima.
